The Quiet Magic of Family Dinners

Ava & Julie❤️

In a world that rarely slows down, family dinners have become something sacred to me.

There was a time when I was the one gently insisting on it—asking everyone to pause, to step away from their busy schedules, to put the phones down, and just sit together. It didn’t always feel easy. Life pulls us in so many different directions, and it’s so normal now for everyone to be in their own space, their own rhythm, their own screen.

But something beautiful began to happen.

What once felt like something I had to encourage… became something they began to ask for.

Now, it’s not unusual for either of the girls or Chad to say, “Are we having family dinner tonight?” And every time I hear that, it fills my heart in a way that’s hard to put into words.

Because these dinners are no longer about just sitting at a table—they’re about connection.

They’re about hearing what everyone learned that day, sharing little wins, big dreams, and sometimes even the hard moments. They’re about laughter that comes out of nowhere, future plans that get tossed around between bites, and those sweet walks down memory lane—remembering when the girls were little and the silly, unforgettable things they used to do.

One of my favorite parts is when we go around the table and each share something we’re grateful for. It’s such a simple thing, but it shifts everything. It brings us back to what really matters.

And somewhere along the way, my role changed.

I’m not the one leading it anymore. I get to sit back now… and just watch.

Watch the conversations flow.

Watch the laughter build.

Watch the connection deepen.

And truly, that might be my favorite part of all.

Because in those moments, I see it clearly—these dinners mean even more to them than they do to me. And that’s the greatest gift.

In a fast-moving world where everyone seems to be on a different schedule, these small pockets of time remind me that what we’re really creating isn’t just a meal…

It’s memories.

It’s tradition.

It’s love, shared around a table.
